Oak Brook Polo Club is excited to welcome back the India Polo Team from the Delhi Polo Club and Anandpur Sahib for the second match of the International Polo Series. The Anandpur Sahib Blues, will competeagainst Oak Brook for the Butler Challenge Cup in a 4-chukker match on Sunday, August 20th at the Prince of Wales Field (2606 York Road) in Oak Brook, Illinois. 

 

Oak Brook Polo Club has a long history of hosting teams from other countries and is honored to have India’s team returning for the historicButler Challenge Cup, which will be ‘on loan’ for the match by Jorie Butler Kent (daughter of Paul Butler). In March, Oak Brook’s team was invited to Delhi and Anandpur Sahib, India ​to play in a series of polo matches during the Hola Mohalla Festival,an annual Sikh event that draws nearly 5 million people to The Holy City of Bliss.

 

Captained by Vikram Singh Sodhi, managing trustee of the Anandpur Sahib Heritage Foundation and owner of the Delhi Polo and Riding Club, India’s team includes players Shailendra Sign (Hcap-0), Sachin Sarbalia(Hcap-0), and Tarun Bilwal (Hcap-2).  Oak Brook is led by team patron and captain Jim Drury and includes Horacio Onetto (Hcap-4), Tomas “Toto” Obregon (Hcap-4) and Mariano Gutierrez (Hcap-4).

 

Prior to the highly-anticipated match,Friends of Conversation (FOC) will host a benefit luncheon to celebrate the organization’s 35th Anniversary. FOC President Reute Butler (granddaughter of Paul Butler) and Vonita Resscer will serve as Event Chairmen whileFOC Founder and International Chairman Jorie Butler Kent will also be present.  Created in 1982,FOC was one of the world’s earliest leaders in the development of community conservation. It has been actively engaging the participation of communities in the Masai Mara area of Kenya since 1988 planning, decision-making and implementing actions andpolicies relating to natural resources management and capacity building. Today it continues its mission of changing attitudes of local people and officials towards sustainable natural resources management. FOC projects have scientific, cultural and aestheticimportance.  

 

Performing at Sundays match will be singer Anil Sharma, who will be singing India’s national anthem, and the Kalashree Dance Academy who will perform a piece of classic and modern bharatanyam dancing.

 

Oak Brook Polo Club’s “International Polo Series” includes matches with teams from Jamaica, India, and Great Britain (September 10).

 

2017 marks Oak Brook Polo Club's 95th season as one of the nation's oldest polo clubs in operation today and fourth oldest sports property in Chicago. Once considered the “polo capital” of the world Oak Brookwas the destination for American Polo players and enthusiasts.
