My name is Mary Patterson. I am a new fashion designer with a passion for making hats using millinery techniques. I graduated from the Illinois Institute of Art, Chicago and studied abroad in Florence, Italy. My design style is classic, but I love to do one of a kind designs that are vintage inspired with a high fashion modern flare. Many of my inspirations come from the 1920’s which is one of my favorite eras. All of my designs are hand sewn including the linings, and I pick unique fabrics and textiles made of cotton, silk and some synthetics.
I am extremely interested in making hats for the polo market and the Kentucky Derby. It’s fascinating to see what women wear to these events, and it would be an amazing opportunity to reach your clients. The sport itself is very interesting to watch and also allows a greater learning opportunity for me. I believe some of the styles may be suitable for the participants and I would love your comments as well as the publicity.
I am in the process of developing a new website to advertise some of my products and would like to share them with you. I live in a small town located near Carbondale, Illinois and there are women here that attend the Kentucky Derby and enjoy watching Polo matches, but I would love to reach more women in this specialized market. While I have included various styles, I can certainly modify or create lines that are unique to the sport.
