It’s one down and one to go for Gillian Johnston’s Coca-Cola team. They won this
seasons first tournament in overtime to defend their 2012 title. However, their
hopes have been dashed to repeat in the second tournament after losing their
first match, in overtime, to La Herradura. The 15-team field will be playing for the
next two weeks to get into the finals on January 23rd. Early favorites should be
Zarara with high goal teammates Hilario Ulloa and Facundo Pieres along with Bob
Jornayvaz’s Valiente squad headed by Adolfo Cambiaso who is subbing for Pelon
Stirling afer he fell from a horse last week.

The fans sentimental favorite is La Herradura, which features the reunited Gracida
brothers. During the early days of south Florida polo Memo and Carlos were almost
unstoppable in high goal competition. Memo (7) was rated at 10 goals for an
incredible 21 years and Carlos (6) won the British Open ten times.

Meanwhile, the Yellow Cab team has bailed out of this season’s high goal
competition, at the last minute, and opted instead to play low goal at the Gulfstream
Polo Club. Last year Crab Orchard pulled a similar stunt in a disagreement over a
players handicap change.
